imvi kol-doval + koltaari
Like in the normal universe, Nero traveled back in time and caused the ripples seen in Star Trek. The Klingons captured and tortured his crew, gained insight into some of the Narada's advanced weaponry, and used the Koltaari system as a testing ground. However, no restraint was exercised, and the majority of the system was destroyed. Only a minority of the surviving Koltaari were enslaved to process the dilithium and other materials the Klingons strip-mined from the core world. The rest were traded, most of them to the Orion Syndicate, who marketed them as "discount" Orion slaves.

As discussed in Decipher's RPG guide Mirror Universe: Through a Glass Darkly, it was not uncommon for normal Orion females to be abducted and genetically altered to produce counterfeit animal women (a rare subcaste of Orions with a voracious sexual appetite and fierce disposition). These same principles of genetic engineering were applied to certain Koltaari, albeit at great risk and with much initial failure. Whether it was luck or a lack of it that resulted in the procedure being successful for Imvi, she was made to resemble an Orion woman, and ironically sold to General Qurn of the Klingon Empire. Her servitude under him remained short, however, for his ship became involved in a skirmish while skirting the Terran Empire's space too closely and was overcome by a Terran vessel.

The crew was imprisoned and executed, the vessel looted for Klingon secrets and weaponry, and Qurn's possession - including Imvi - became Terran property. Her new owners were more thorough in their inspection of her, however, and determined she had little worth to them as a personal slave as she was not a genuine Orion. She was assigned tedious, petty work aboard a starship but, through grit, determination, and her inherent interest in the sciences, managed to scramble her way to a lieutenant position onboard the USS Enterprise, over which she has a tenuous but stubborn hold.
